After I fill out the online application, what is the next step in the process?
Coaches will get back to you within 72 hours of your application. All selected Players will then need to fill out a final application form and pay a deposit ($1000) as soon as possible to secure their spot in the program. A deposit must be paid right after acceptance, and then final payment can be paid by the date specified in your confirmation email.
WE will continue to accept applications until all trips are full.
All of the team flights fly in and out of los angeles. If i cannot get to Lax, can you arrange for me to fly out of another airport closer to my location?
Yes. this is on a case by case basis, but we can help you with a flight that is easier for your location.
Will i get my first trip choice?
we will do our best to offer players a spot on the trip that they chose as their top pick. However, there will be situations when spots are full on that particular trip, but other spots are open on another team. If accepted into the program, we will give players all available options at the time of their acceptance.
Who is eligible to go on a usa starz trip?
All men and women ages 17 - 25 (berlin/prague is restricted to 18 - 25). You do not have to be a current or former member of the starz lacrosse organization. Last year, we had 10 states represented on our teams, with a range of players at the MCLA - Div 1 level.
How many players are on each team?
There will be 18- 20 players on each team. once a team has reach 20, there will be no more open spots on that team. For men and women, this means each team will have: 2 goalkeepers, 5 attackers, 8 midfielders and 5 defenders.
What does it mean if i hear back and i have been put on the wait list for a trip?
If you hear back from our staff that you have been put on the wait list, that means that a particular trip is full at your position. However, it does not mean that all of those players have committed to the trip, only that they have been offered a spot. If a player drops, the program will contact you with an offer for the open spot.
How much do the trips cost?
See each individual trip page for costs. Our trip prices are very competitive with similar travel programs. women’s trips are less than men’s trips due to less gear being issued to female players compared to the male players (no helmet and gloves).
What is the payment process?
Players must pay the $1000 trip deposit as soon as they are accepted to hold down their spots. The deposit will be added to the final cost of the trip. The final payment for the balance can be paid any time until may 1st online via credit card or by check. For those that are accepted after 4/25 until 5/20, you will be required to pay the deposit right away, and the final trip cost by the date specified in your confirmation email.
What is included in the trip cost?
the price of the trip includes all travel (air, train, etc), local transportation, team meals (2-4 dinners per trip and breakfasts when available), custom uniforms and gear, coaches fees, tournament fees, team sightseeing excursions (where applicable) and lodging. details are unique for each trip. Check out the “Program Cost” page for more details about the overall program and the individual trip pages for exact costs for each trip. Big part of the cost also has to do with how weak our dollar is around the world. It has never been so expensive to execute these trips.
are there practices before the trip?
To cut back on the cost of the trip,We will not hold any practices in the united states, since that would require everyone to fly to Los angeles for a few days and then fly round trip to our destination. We instead will go a few days early on each trip to hold team practices on site.
When will i get my team gear?
Team gear will be mailed to you by late may.
What else should I bring, including how much spending money?
click here to see our “so, what should i bring” page for info.
How will the players be supervised?
on each trip, our coaches and trip directors are there to keep each player safe and accounted for. Players are given freedom with boundaries. Coaches can set curfews, will have specific meeting times, and a code of conduct for each trip. The coaches stay with the players, organize sightseeing tours and specific team meals, and for the most part, are with the players for the majority of each day. the coaches and trip directors handle all logistics of the trip, from transport to and from the fields, lodging, etc. all of our staff have great coaching and travel experience that is necessary to ensure everyone has a great time in a safe environment.
The coaches are not babysitters, which is why we work hard to recruit only mature players that can properly handle themselves abroad. There will be no hesitation to send players home at their own expense if they break program rules.
When will final team rosters be posted?
we will post rosters as soon as each team fills, which will be by early june or sooner.
What will happen if I get injured or sick on the trip?
Each player must have their own insurance for health or injuries (can be through your us lacrosse membership). EAch tournament will also have a trainer present and full medical services (emt, etc). However, each country we will be in has a national health service that generally will not charge (even foreigners) for coverage in the case of emergency. Some of our players have experienced this on our past trips and have been treated incredibly by local hospitals without being charged.
